Adaptation of the Cyber Ostracism Scale into Turkish
Main Article Content
Abstract
Background. It is seen that the issue of ostracism is important in business life, and a significant amount of knowledge has been accumulated on this issue. Besides, outputs of cyber environments, which are effective in business life, also show themselves in terms of ostracism. In this context, it is observed that there are a limited number of measurement tools related to cyber ostracism, which has started to emerge in the international literature.
Aim. Within the scope of the study, the conceptual content of cyber ostracism was tried to be transferred to the Turkish national literature. In addition, the scale developed by Niu et al. (2018) was adapted into Turkish.
Method. The research sample consists of 227 employees working as teachers at private schools in the Central Black Sea Region of Türkiye. Between September and November 2023, data were collected using quantitative research method and survey technique. The survey form was administered face-to-face and online via cross-sectional time type. The obtained data were analyzed with IBM SPSS and IBM SPSS Amos statistical software.
Findings. After the cyber ostracism scale items were translated into Turkish, construct validity analyses were applied with three different measurement models. For reliability analysis, Cronbach's Alpha and composite reliability were calculated. Then, the cyber ostracism scale was tested for predictive validity via a stress scale.
Conclusion. The 14-item cyber ostracism scale was found to be valid and reliable with both its unidimensional and three-dimensional structure. Cyber ostracism contributes in the same direction in explaining perceived stress and in the opposite direction in explaining coping with stress.
